Overview
The ScanDAQ was designed especially for the
garage-environment, unlike a PDA or a laptop. It offers sealed
connectors, a high-impact rubber boot, a tactile membrane
keypad, and a battery pack
to allow operation (~6 hours) when not connected to a vehicle. ScanDAQ is the
answer for vehicle diagnostics and service operations
that require user-interaction.
ScanDAQ is the only handheld device to supports the J2534 applications
from all OEMs while also offering a complete set of handheld diagnostics
capabilities on-screen.
The color touch screen is sunlight readable and the device was built
to survive in harsh shop environments. ScanDAQ also has optional wireless
capabilities and extended storage upgrades to up to 4GB for live
data.
The ScanDAQ runs Linux and has a set of applications
available from DTC readers, PID live data
recorders, and scope probes to other specialized
applications. Because the ScanDAQ runs Linux
and supports J2534, it is a great open platform for 3rd party application
development. Drew Tech can assist is customizing the ScanDAQ for
any special automotive, heavy duty truck, off road, or aerospace
application.

OEM J2534 Reflashing Applications
Servicing newer, more increasingly complicated
vehicles has put independent repair shops at a disadvantage against
auto dealerships that have access to the latest service tools and
knowledge databases. Accurately diagnosing and repairing many of
these newer vehicles used to require full access to expensive factory
service tools. The EPA recognized the independent repair shop’s
need for access and mandated that all OEMs comply with the SAE standard
J2534-1. The SAE J2534-1 standard defines a uniform hardware device,
like the Drew Technologies ScanDAQ, that all automakers must support
with their vehicle reflashing applications.

Having access to SAE J2534-1 software
and tools are important for several reasons. First, diagnosing and
repairing vehicles often requires reprogramming or reflashing the
vehicle with the latest update. After a vehicle is assembled and
sold at a new car dealership, the automaker’s engineering groups
often fix common problems found at the dealership by releasing a
new reflash. The reflash is not a recall, and therefore most vehicles
on the road will not get the update unless they are brought in to
the dealership for servicing. These reflashes could fix transmission
shifting problems, hesitation, rough idle, drivability, check engine
lights, emissions quality, poor performance, or any of a number
of other problems. Without the reflashing capabilities, independent
repair shops may spend time and money trying to repair an issue
with hard parts that cannot be repaired without a calibration flash
update.
The Second reason a repair shop should have
a SAE J2534-1 device is to offer their customers flash updates as
an up sell. Even if the customer does not believe they are experiencing
a problem with their vehicle, they may see some benefit in performance,
drivability, or even fuel economy by getting their vehicle updated
to the latest available calibration flash. It also serves as good
preventative maintenance to update the calibration flash and avoid
any problems that it was intended to fix.
Included Diagnostic Software
In addition to supporting J2534 for reflashing,
the ScanDAQ includes pre-loaded diagnostic software for automotive
use. Screen shots are shown at actual resolution.
OBD2 Port Locator
The OBD2 Port is located in different
places on different vehicles, and often times hidden under
vehicle panneling.
Just power ScanDAQ up from it's battery
and you can now easily locate the vehicle connector in seconds.
ScanDAQ includes a quick reference guide that allows the
mechanic to select the vehicle make, model, and year to
quickly locate the connector. ScanDAQ will show the user
either a photograph and location of the connector, or a
schematic pointing to the area on the dash where it is located.

Diagnostic Trouble Code Reading and
Clearing
Do you have a check engine light?
With ScanDAQ's DTC Reader you can easily retrieve Diagnostic
Trouble Codes from any OBD2 vehicle. Along with the DTC,
ScanDAQ will also show you the VIN and Calibration IDs.
Once you have read the codes, you
can easily clear them from this application. This is a quick
and hassle free way to pull trouble codes out of OBD2 vehicles.

Live PID Data Logging and Recording
The ScanDAQ has a built-in PID viewer
which allows you to read, display, and record live data
from the vehicle. You can store up to 4GB of data by using
storage in the Compact Flash slot.
The PID viewer will automatically
detect and display PIDS which are available. A list of supported
vehicles can be viewed by clicking
here >
Using the ScanDAQ PID viewer, you
can view manufacturer supported PIDS such as RPM, Intake
Air Temperature, Ignitiion Timing Advance, Engine Coolant
Temperature, Long Term Fuel Trim, Short Term Fuel Trim,
Speed, Throttle Position, Intake Manifold Pressure, Oxygen
Sesnor, and many others, depending on the vehicle.

Other Included Programs
The ScanDAQ also has
an analog input and control panel feature. The Analog input
can be viewed and recorded on-screen using the scope probe
application. The battery status and display settings are
available from the control panel.

OEM Engineering and Testing Software
ScanDAQ was originally developed with OEM
use in mind, and has since been adapted for various tasks
throughout new vehicle design, development, and manufacturing.
OEM Testing applications are not loaded on ScanDAQ by default,
but these program can be included or customized for your
specific needs.
BUS / Protocol Monitoring
Software
The ScanDAQ Bus Monitor software
allows you to view and store packets as they are
transmitted on the vehicle bus.

End Of Line (EOL) Testing
and Custom Applications
Drew Tech has developed custom
applications intended for testing vehicles as they come
off the assembly line. These tests can verify
calibrations installed on various controllers inside the
vehicle, communicate with and reprogram specific
modules, perform diagnostic tests, and display or save a
detailed report. All of this can be done from the
ScanDAQ with no need for a separate PC.
The "Get Controller Info"
application connects to the automobile and captures
identification information for all controllers installed
in the vehicle. There is no limit to the possibilities
for custom applications!
