Comprehensive Info on what OBD2 is and
how it can help you know so much more about your
vehicle.
OBD2, or "On-board diagnostics (version 2), is
the SAE standardized advanced diagnostic system that repair
facilities use to diagnose and monitor the various vehicle
systems on your vehicle to indicate poor performance and
potential broken components when you bring it in for service.
This technology can cost beyond several thousand dollars to have all the capabiliites the DashDAQ XL offers you.
By plugging the DashDAQ XL into your vehicles OBD2 port you are connecting yourself to all the vehicle monitors, sensors, on-boad computers and so much more.
How it works:
(behind the curtain) DashDAQ XL is engineered to scan your vehicle for thousands of PIDs (parameter Identifications). These PIDs are specially addressed so the DashDAQ XL knows right where to look for them on the vehicle ECU (Engine Control Unit).
1. Once you plug in your DashDAQ XL to your vehicle's OBD2 port and begin your first signal scan DashDAQ XL uses these addresses to begin building your available signal list.
2. Of course, depending on the make, model, and year of your vehicle not all these addresses will be listed on your vehicle. In some cases, your signal list can be up to 500 individual PIDs.
3. In all cases, DashDAQ XL will begin to search through a short list of available PIDs refered to as Generic OBD2. This list is the same for all 1996 and newer vehicles. Again, based on make, model, and year of your vehicle, your vehicle will show a smaller set of these PIDs.
4. If you wish you can immediately begin to monitor and log these generic PIDs in anyone of the DashDAQ XL's many gauge sets.

DashDAQ XL also offers the ability to dig even deeper into your vehicles OBD2 system and offers Enhanced OBD2 data for select manufacturers.
